A rare and vibrant 19th-century hand-painted majolica pharmacy jar from Italy, marked Saccharum (Latin for sugar).

Traditionally used to store medicinal or culinary ingredients, this piece showcases classic Italian tin-glaze techniques, with floral and foliate motifs in vivid blue, green, and saffron hues.

There is an intensity of the glaze colours which have not faded with time.

Circa 1850
